Patience
Good things come to those who are patient. On a rainy summer day in 2001, all of my friends were busy and I did not have anyone to play with. My dad was at work, my sisters were with their friends, and my mom was on the phone. The only friend I had to play with was my little white dog Mcgwire. We started off playing fetch with his bone, but we eventually ended up getting bored. Then I remembered my toy gun that I received for my birthday. It was a plastic gun, but it was shiny like metal and red like a race car. Except that was not even the coolest thing about the gun, it actually shot real plastic bullets. Beautiful, three inch long, shiny bullets that were red as a firetruck. Now of course when I asked my mom to get me this toy when we were at target the year before, she said, “Absolutely not, you are not allowed to play with guns even if its a toy gun.” So naturally I went to my dad, and when my birthday came around, he gave me this toy gun. That shows just how awesome this toy gun was, because it was a “Don’t-tell-Mom” type gun.
When my dog and I began to play cops and robbers, I was naturally the cop because I have the opposable thumb to shoot the gun, and he was the robber. I started to chase my dog around the house, shooting him with my gun, only stopping to reload my four bullet clip. After 20 minutes of playing this game my dog started to get a little angry, so he ran away as fast as lightening and hid underneath the couch! At this my mom said, “Leave the dog alone, he is probably tired.” Although I was not tired at all and I was having fun! So naturally, as any impatient five year old would do in this situation, I shot one more bullet. A perfect bullet, the best bullet out of my four bullet set, and it landed right in front of my dogs snout. He began to chew on the bullet like it was a delicious bone. I was about to freak out, so I yelled to my mom to help me but she just said, “I am on the phone! Just give me a minute.” Except I was not patient enough to wait a minute, a whole 60 seconds? While my best bullet is in my dogs mouth? No way was I going to wait even five seconds! So I did it, I reached for my bullet. This was a horrible decision on my part because he chomped down on my hand. I began to panic, so I ripped my hand out of his mouth. This resulted in an inch long gash in my thumb that began to bleed profusely.
This day in my life, when I was only five years old with blood dripping down my thumb, I learned the value of patience. If I would of waited for my mom, my dog would not have bitten me, I would not have a scar on my thumb that I still have to this day, and my perfect bullet would not have been eaten. Looking back, I know realize that if I would of waited for my mom, she would of been able to get my bullet back with just a few bite marks, and nothing bad would of happened. Truly, patience is a virtue.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like you learned your lesson and that you had it coming.
ReplyDeleteThis a good story that teaches a good lesson that being patient for some things are better than jumping the gun.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that you experienced that, but do you still have the gun by chance?
ReplyDeleteSounds like you learned a lesson at a young age and you showed your love for your dog and being able to play with him while nobody else was there to play!
